LED screen in Ghent: installation, permit and quote
Even behind a shop window: in Ghent the brightness rule is set in lux. What to know before installing, and where.
Ghent has one of Belgium’s most precise ordinances on illuminated advertising — down to the permitted lux level. We build the screen to your size and install it on your facade or in your shop window.
Permit: even behind glass
- A screen placed behind a shop window, visible from the public road, is also subject to a permit — not only facade-mounted devices.
- Maximum brightness: 2 lux on neighbouring facades and the public road for a backlit sign, 10 lux for spotlit lighting.
- Negative contrast (letters cut from a dark background) is the ordinance’s preferred solution, positioned below first-floor windows.
Veldstraat and the centre
Veldstraat, car-free since 1984, is Ghent’s main shopping street — mentioned in the same breath as Brussels’ Nieuwstraat or Antwerp’s Meir. It links the Korenmarkt to the university faculties, within walking distance of the historic centre.
